JAMMU, Dec 27: The PHE workers have resolved to observe mass protest rally on January 10 as a large number of daily wagers/ consolidated workers are without wages for the last about 22 months.
Addressing a joint press conference here today, provincial president of PHE Workers Welfare Association and general secretary Subash Verma strongly criticized the State Government and especially the concerned Ministry for its failure to provide wages to the poor workers. They alleged that the workers were facing starvation and even the concerned senior officers are least bothered about the plight of the workers.
The poor workers are left to suffer and face exploitation. The higher authorities have also failed to solve the other burning issues of the workers. Non-Gazetted permanent employees are also suffering as no DPC was held since long. The backlog wages of workers have remained unpaid. They demanded that all the daily wagers be regularized and a policy be framed on the pattern of ReT teachers. The wages of all the workers be given regularly before 5th of every month.
Bakshi Singh further said that DPC of all cadre be held regularly and higher scale posts should also be created. He also demanded framing of new recruitment policy for smooth functioning of the department. He pointed out that the executive members of the Assocation had met the PHE Minister Sham Lal and Chief Engineer on several occasions but except assurances nothing has happened. Now, over one week time is being given to the Government failing which the employees will be forced to launch agitation.
They declared that observing the attitude of the Minister for PHE, I&FC and higher officers, the Association has now decided to observe mass protest rally on January 10 outside the office of Chief Engineer PHE, at BC Road complex here. They appealed the workers to participate in large number.
