NMC for exemption of DA from IT ambit

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Dec 28: Emphasizing on the need for total exemption of Dearness Allowance (DA) from the ambit of Income Tax, President of National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) Subash Shastri urged upon the Union Finance Minister to reconsider the practice and take early decision in this regard, so that confusion and uncertainty among employees and pensioners of the Central and State Governments will come to end.
Addressing a rally of NMC workers at Gole Market park in Gandhi Nagar, Shastri said that the price escalation and massive inflation in the country is directly linked with the DA of the salaried class and pensioners, adding that it was strange that the income tax is also imposed on the increase of the salaries because of Dearness Allowance (DA). There is no justification of imposing income tax of DA, he added.
He demanded 20 per cent interim relief to the Central and State Governments employees and pensioners, merger of 50 per cent of DA into basic pay/pension, enhancement of monthly wages of daily wagers to Rs 10,000, comprehensive policy for regularization of all daily wagers/casual and seasonal labour, early amendment in SRO 64, release of 10 per cent DA, immediate re-organization of the floriculture, issuance of regularization order of 180 daily wagers working in RDD, release of 3rd installment of 6th Pay Commission arrears, etc.
