JAMMU, Dec 28: J&K Pradesh Congress Committee organised a function in connection with the Foundation Day of the Congress Party at PCC headquarters Shahidi Chowk here today.
Like many functions all over the country today, the PCC leaders and Congress activists celebrated the occasion at the party office here today. AICC secretary and incharge J&K Affairs Mainul Haq (MLA) was the chief guest while senior vice president of the PCC Dharam Pal Sharma presded over the function. Several prominent leaders of the party including Ministers, MPs, legislators and functionaries of PCC, DCC, block and frontal organizations attended.
While speaking on the occasion, AICC secretary threw light on the history of Congress Party and its contribution towards the country and sacrifices during freedom struggle and there after. It was on this day in 1885, the Congress was founded and during its 128 years of service to the nation, the Congress Party remained committed to the principle of secularism and socialism and strengthening unity and integrity of the nation.
He said there were many challenges before the country when the India attained freedom and it was due to the leadership of Congress Party that the India emerged as great power.
Speaking on the occasion several senior leaders referred to the historical role of Congress Party in the State and said that it is the party which can ensure equitable and balanced development in all the three regions of the State. They said the Congress Party would emerge stronger after next Assembly elections.
