SRINAGAR, Sept 6: The All J&K Transporters Welfare Association today expressed their grievances regarding the state of the transport sector in the region, citing a lack of government policy and effective planning as major issues affecting their livelihoods.
Scores of people associated with the transport sector assembled in the Press Enclave and were raising slogans in favor of their demands, urging the authorities to take note of their apathy.

Muhammad Yousuf, vice president of the All J&K Transporters Welfare Association, highlighted the challenges faced by transporters. He stated that they have repeatedly presented their demands to the administration, but these issues have remained unresolved.
One of the primary concerns raised by Yousuf was the absence of a comprehensive transport policy. He pointed out that while the government has introduced initiatives such as e-rickshaws and e-buses, there is a lack of clarity on how and where these services should operate.
Additionally, he mentioned that even the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses seem to lack a defined operational plan.
He emphasized the issue of competition with SRTC buses, alleging that SRTC buses often pick up passengers from locations where their buses are stationed, leaving private transporters at a disadvantage.
He claimed that despite the designation of 73 specific routes for e-rickshaws, they are operating indiscriminately, affecting the income of traditional transporters.
Expressing apprehension, HE suggested that the government might inadvertently be working to undermine the transport sector, leaving them sidelined and financially strained.
The protestors called for a well-thought-out plan that includes their input and cooperation in the development and operation of e-vehicles to ensure the sustainable growth of the transport sector, while seeking clarity and a collaborative approach to address these challenges effectively.
