Reserve 50 pc women candidates in all polls: Sena

JAMMU, Sept 6: Shiv Sena (UBT) activists here today paid rich tribute to Maa Saheb Meena Tai Thackeray on her 27th death anniversary.
After paying floral tributes to Maa Meena Tai, Shiv Sena State president, Manish Sahni voiced for empowerment of women.
He said that women constitute half of the population of the country and demanded 50 per cent reservation for them in all elections across the country.
Sahni claimed that even after 75 years of independence, women are not being given their due rights in politics. He flayed the reservation draft for women issued by J&K government for local body elections and demanded an increase in reservation up to 50 per cent.
The Shiv Sena leader called it unfortunate that out of a total of 788 members in both the houses of Indian Parliament only 103 are women, which is merely 13 per cent.
On this occasion president women wing Meenakshi Chibber, general secretary, Vikas Bakshi, chairman, Rakesh Gupta, vice President Sanjeev Kohli, Balwant Singh, Rajesh Handa, Geeta Lakhotra, Dimple and others were also present.
