KATHUA, Sept 8: The residents of Bani have expressed grave concern over the prolonged delay in construction of link road from Lowang to Baugh in Bani tehsil of Kathua district.
The locals said that the work on the link road was started way back in the year 1997 but after passage of even 26 years the road was not constructed as the concerned Department abandoned the work half way for unknown reasons.
Mudasar Ali a social activist of the area said that the work on four km road was started in 1997 and after excavation of one km it was abandoned for unknown reasons by the authorities of Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department with the result the people are suffering a lot especially in taking the ailing people to hospital for treatment or in case of any other emergency.
These views were expressed by other residents of the area including Mohammed Hussian Malik, Mohammed Shahid Malik, Liyasqat Ali etc who showed their dismay over the negligent attitude of the authorities towards the area.
However when contacted the Executive Engineer, R&B Division, Basohli, Bharat Gupta said that the work was started in 2002-2003 under district plan and later it was abandoned as some people got work stayed from the court and they did not allow their land to be acquired for the construction of land.
He however said that he had deputed the concerned AEE to the area to take the stock of the situation and in case the people agree to give the land for the construction of road, it will be kept in the next year’s district plan and work can be started later.
