Srinagar, Sept 10: The J&K Yateem Foundation recently organised a three-day capacity-building programme at its Baitul Hilal orphanage in Chawalgam in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, with the overarching theme “Social Service, Credibility, Transparency, and Accountability.”
According to a spokesperson from the Foundation, the event attracted approximately 150 senior volunteers hailing from various regions within Jammu and Kashmir, including remote districts like Poonch, Rajouri, and Doda, among others.
“Distinguished speakers and experts emphasised the importance of credibility, transparency, accountability, sincerity, wisdom, and selflessness as essential qualities for effective social service. They encouraged volunteers to adopt innovative and modern approaches to address the evolving challenges in the field,” he said.
He said during the programme, a panel discussion on the “Role of NGOs to counter Social Evils” was conducted, where experts engaged in insightful discussions regarding strategies to effectively combat social issues. He informed that noted columnist and author, Dr. Maroof Shah, suggested revisiting welfare policies to empower deserving individuals towards self-reliance.
Additionally, he said, Ghulam Abbas, Joint Director of the Central Bureau of Communications (CBC), stressed the values of sincerity, honesty, truthfulness, and uprightness among volunteers, urging them to guide disadvantaged sections to benefit from government welfare schemes.
He added that various sessions covered a wide array of topics, including Zakat collection, psychoeducation in child care, first aid training, drug abuse prevention, and the role of social media in the context of social service.
