LUCKNOW, June 22:
With almost no opposition witnessed during the first 100 days of the youngest ever Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh, the Government has focussed on the poll promises besides reviving democratic norms and ending several policies of the previous government during its regime so far.
Faced with a daunting task to control crime, law and order and the acute crisis of power, the Samajwadi Party Government which came to power with absolute majority in the assembly elections, also had to take U-turn on several issues including the decision to close the shops and malls at 1900 hrs due to power crisis and frequent transfers of the officials.
Akhilesh Yadav took the oath of the CM office on March 15.
Though the Government was not at all interested in publicising the 100 days of the regime but they claim that the achievement in this short time was a record of sort.
The Government has already given budgetary sanctions for providing Rs 1000 per month unemployment allowances to around one million youths in the age between 30 to 40 years besides giving Laptops to XII pass students and Tablets to Tenth pass. The government has also sanctioned a one time grant of Rs 30,000 to Muslim girls who had passed class ten and have promised to construct boundary walls in all the graveyards.
Senior UP Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav said here today that the Government has no such plan to celebrate 100 days of the Government.
“SP Government has been voted to power for ruling the state for five years and we are not obsessed on days. We are still fighting the system to revive the democratic set up in the state and to end the irregularities opted by the previous Mayawati government,” Mr Yadav said.
The opposition parties mainly, BSP, BJP and the Congress has already given almost walkover in the by-elections held for Kannauj Lok Sabha seat and Mant assembly bypolls. In Kannauj, Dimple Yadav wife of the CM created a history by getting elected unopposed while in Mant BSP and BJP failed to give their candidates.
But on the other hand the ruling SP too did not have courage to contest the Urban Local bodies elections along with the BSP. The opposition parties also cooperated with the Government in the smooth conduct of the state assembly during the ongoing budget session though sometimes raising their voices over power crisis and law and order problems. The main achievement of the SP Government after it came to power was restoration of the ‘ Janata Darshan’, declaration of the property of the CM and his family members and the ministers besides minimising the security of the CM and the ministers. The Government also withdrew the decision of the BSP Government for reservation in promotion for Government employees on the direction of the Supreme court. But the Government had to face some criticism for extension of the term of the Lokayukta from 5 to eight years.
Though the Government took action against the engineers and contractors for irregularities in the construction of Parks, Memorials and statutes during the past regime, but they failed to initiate any probe on the illegal sale of sugar mills and financial irregularities in construction work at the CM’s residence in Mayawati Government. The Government also extended the agreement of 9 power unit MoUs with the private companies of the previous Government even after protest by the power employees union.
The Akhilesh Yadav Government took a stand to end 26 schemes on the name of dalit icons in the state started by the previous government.
In just over 3 months regime, the CM also had a privilege to meet three big shots in the IT sector when Microsoft found Bill Gates and HCL chairman Shiv Nadar met him. Other Indian industrialists like Adi Godrej and Anil Ambani also met him in Lucknow. The Government in its first three months has decided to revive the students union in the colleges and universities and started preparing the new industrial, IT, Agriculture and other policies.Construction of an eight land Agra-Lucknow expressway, BRTS in Lucknow and CCTV cameras at all important places in the state were some of the other projects initiated by the Government.
