Bovine smuggling bid foiled

JAMMU, Sept 13: Police in Akhnoor area here today claimed that they have arrested a bovine smuggler and rescued several animals from the vehicle he was driving.
A police spokesperson said that a party of Police Post Chowki Choura led by SHO Akhnoor, Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq assisted by PSI Pankaj Katoch, incharge Police Post Chowki Choura, under the overall supervision of SDPO Akhnoor, Mohan Lal Sharma, intercepted an auto load carrier in Akhnoor.
During search of the vehicle, the police party found several animals crammed mercilessly into the vehicle, he said, adding that accordingly all the animals were freed and the vehicle carrying them seized.
The accused identified as Jahangir Hussain of Poonch has been arrested and booked in case FIR number 259/2023 under sections 188 IPC, 11 PCA Act, and 50, 52, 54, and 56 of the Transport of Animals Rules 1978 registered at Police Station Akhnoor and further investigation taken up, added the police spokesperson.
