IEI Jammu celebrates 56th Engineers’ Day

JAMMU, Sept 15: The 56th Engineers’ Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre at its Institutional Complex Jammu in which H Rajesh Prasad, Principal Secretary to Government, Power Development Department, J&K Govt was the chief guest.
Prof (Dr) Bhawna Sharma, Chairman and Sachin Tickoo, Honorary Secretary of IEI, Jammu Local Centre were also present besides a large numbers of engineers from various departments and organizations.
This day is celebrated all over the country to commemorate the 162nd birth anniversary of the greatest engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya, Bharat Ratna.
On this occasion, Sachin Tickoo, Honorary Secretary extended gratitude warm welcome to Rajesh Prasad, for having consented to grace the occasion as chief guest.
Prof (Dr). Bhawna Sharma, in her welcome address recalled the distinguished services of Rajesh Prasad, in various capacities while working in national capital territory of Delhi and at other important positions. She also extended special welcome to senior engineers who continued to exhibit their dedication and passion for their profession, going above and beyond to be part of our celebrations on this day.
Rich tribute were paid to Sir M. Visvesvaraya by Rabinder Shekher on behalf of IEI, Jammu Local Centre in which he highlighted the sterling qualities of Sir Visvesvaraya like austerity, integrity, competence and discipline.
Lalit Mengi, Retd Chief Engineer, R&B & Retd Managing Director, Housing Board was honoured with IEI Award for his outstanding services rendered to the engineering profession and to the Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre. He was presented with a Gold Medallion as a mark of respect & Rabinder Shekher, with D K Gupta Engineer of the year award for his life time achievements to the engineering profession.
This award was instituted by Er. Darshan Kumar Gupta, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) and former Superintending Engineer, Power Development Department, J&K Government, for highlighting and rewarding the “Lifetime Achievements” of an individual during his/her professional career. This award is being conferred on an engineer every year since 2011.
Er. Rabinder Shekher, Fellow Institution of Engineers (I) and Chartered Engineer, is working as Superintending Engineer in DIQC, J&K.
IEI, Jammu also presented R.L. Sharma Memorial Gold Medal to Er. Ajay Sharma for presenting the Best Technical Paper Rudra Bhagwati Silver Medal to PK Nanda for presenting 2nd best technical paper and IEI Bronze Medal to Joy Ganjoo for presenting 3rd best technical paper during the year 2022 – 23.
IEI, also honoured Ajay Sharma, PK Nanda, BL Rawal, Ranjeev Sawhney; Sumil Goyal, Joy Ganjoo, Member Technologist, Akash Dusgotra and Anil Kumar with mementoes for presenting two or more technical papers during the year 2022 – 2023.
In addition to above first issue of 21st Volume of quarterly IEI Jammu News – Newsletter of Jammu Local Centre was also released by the chief guest in presence of Editorial Board comprising of Prof (Dr) Bhawna Sharma, Chairman cum Editorial Director, PK Nanda, Anil Verma, Pooja Wazir and Sachin Tickoo, Hony. Secretary.
While speaking on the occasion, Rajesh Prasad, highlighted role of engineers in the development of the country, especially remarkable progress achieved in the Power sector, Roads & Buildings and modern artificial intelligence based applications to prepare the country to make huge impact on the world map. He acknowledged the role of J&K Engineers both public and private sector in making landmark progress towards the development of the union territory. He also sought cooperation from the institution in creating a techno vibrant environment in Jammu region so that dearth of skilled technically sound manpower is addressed and void felt by public and private sector are addressed.
