JAMMU, Sept 16: The brother of the dreaded criminal Gulzar Ali alias Lahu Gujjar, and a history-sheeter himself, Yakoob Ali, was arrested in the Phallain Mandal area today, along with his associate.
While sharing details about the arrest, SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli stated that Yaqoob Ali is a notorious criminal and drug peddler. He, along with his brother Gulzar Ahmed, alias Lahu Gujjar, and Phalla, has been involved in over a dozen cases of heinous crimes, including attempted murder, rioting, criminal intimidation, rape, kidnapping, criminal assault on public servants and police officials, and wrongful confinement.
The Police officer also mentioned that Yakoob Ali was wanted in several other cases related to the possession of deadly weapons, firearms, sharp-edged weapons, unlawful assembly, criminal trespass, mischief, drug smuggling, peddling, and Arms Act violations.
“Yakoob, along with his brother, was particularly wanted for attacking police parties in Bishnah, Miran Sahib, and at Bari Brahamana with sharp-edged weapons and guns,” added the SSP Jammu.
Chandan Kohli further explained that the arrests were made by a police team led by SP South Shaheen Wahid and SDPO City South Sachit Sharma. The team received support from three SHOs—SHO Satwari, Inspector Sumeet Sharma; SHO Gandhi Nagar, Inspector Pankaj Sharma; SHO Miran Sahib, Inspector Bopinder Singh—and two Probationary Sub-Inspectors (PSIs), Harjinder Singh, incharge of Police Post Chatha, and Ajesh Singh Jamwal, incharge of Police Post Phallain Mandal.
Regarding the modus operandi of the operation, SSP Jammu mentioned that special checkpoints were established at different locations. At one of these checkpoints in Phallain Mandal, the vehicle of the accused, who was travelling with his aide Sharief Ali of Mehmoodpur, Bishnah, was intercepted. However, upon seeing the police party, he abruptly stopped his vehicle and attempted to flee.
“When they were chased, they attacked the police party with sharp-edged weapons. Nevertheless, the alert police party overpowered them, resulting in the recovery of the sharp-edged weapons from their possession,” stated the police officer.
Meanwhile, Police have registered another case against the accused under FIR number 197/2023, and started further investigation.
