POONCH, Sept 17: A car was washed away in heavy rains in Mendhar sub division of Poonch district today while markets were flooded with rain water.
Report said that, while the continuous rain for three hours caused loss to the people, the Rural Development Department (RDD) was also exposed. Rain water took the form of a river on the roads of Mendhar town due to which general public had to face problems.
Local shopkeepers Sachin Sharma, Sunny Bhatia, Amit Mahajan and others alleged that whenever it rains, rain water enters into their shops and damages every thins, and hence they have suffered losses many times. They said the local administration was informed about this problem several times but they were not given any answer.
The shopkeepers held the Rural Development Department responsible for this problem. They said that due to lack of cleanliness in the main market, drains get blocked due to which rain water after coming on the roads goes into the shops and then they have to suffer losses.
People demand the District Administration and the Lieutenant Governor of J&K to declare Mendhar a municipal area so that that their problems related to drainage and cleanliness can be solved.
