SRINAGAR, Sept 17: National Conference (NC) chief spokesperson, Tanvir Sadiq on Sunday expressed concern over the paucity of drinking water and electricity in various areas of Srinagar city.
In a handout he stated: “Taps have been dry for about a week in various areas and despite registering complaints repeatedly, the authorities haven’t taken any action.”
The NC leader also said: “People are buying bottled water to meet their requirements and the repeated pleas for providing water tankers are being paid no heed by the concerned department.”
He said that situation with regards to electricity is also pathetic and many pockets in downtown, particularly Rainawari, are presently reeling under darkness.
Tanvir said that people are getting power and water supply only for a few hours.
“Worst hit are the people from Batpora, Hazratbal, Kashmir University, NIT, Saderbal, Saida Kadal Elahi Bagh, Gulab Bagh, Soura, Anchar, Nowshera, Lal Bazar, Rainawari, Zadibal, Alasteng, Shuhama, Habak, Zukra and various parts of Ganderbal along with Kral Khud, Haba Kadal, Chinkrar Mohalla, Basant Bagh, Nai Sarak, Gaw Kadal and its adjacent areas.
“I hope the administration will take long and short term steps to address the issue and the consumers should use the water and electricity judiciously,” he continued.
