In an effort to enhance the ease of doing business with the government and eliminate opportunities for corrupt practices, the Transport Department of Jammu and Kashmir has introduced an innovative online module for the transfer of vehicle ownership. This module allows both buyers and sellers to electronically sign the necessary legal documents required for the ownership transfer using their Aadhar-registered mobile numbers.
This forward-thinking initiative has not only made the ownership transfer process significantly more accessible but has also eliminated the need for buyers and sellers to visit Motor Vehicle Department offices in person for identity verification. Instead, this crucial step is now seamlessly integrated into the Aadhar-enabled e-signing process.
Previously, individuals involved in a vehicle transaction had to download application forms, complete them manually, upload them to the portal, and submit physical copies to Transport Department offices. With the introduction of this new initiative, Form 29 and Form 30 are automatically generated by retrieving relevant information from VAHAN and Aadhar databases.
Additionally, the burdensome requirement of uploading extra documents, such as sale deeds and address proofs, has been eliminated for those opting for the e-sign application method. Processing times for these applications, which used to take weeks or even months, will now be reduced to hours, if not minutes, thanks to the seamless integration of VAHAN and Aadhar databases. This eliminates the need for redundant verifications by Motor Vehicle Department officials.
This development not only reflects the government’s commitment to digitization and efficiency but also its dedication to creating a more transparent and corruption-free environment for citizens.
