JAMMU, Sept 18: Prof Kuldeep Agnihotri the former Vice Chancellor of Central University (CU) Himachal Pradesh (HP) has strongly advocated for rechristening the Cluster University, Jammu as Pt. Prem Nath Dogra University.
In an informal chat with some journalists here, Dr Agnihotri said that the role and services of late Dogra to the nation in general and J&K in particular can’t be forgotten and naming Cluster University of Jammu as Pt. Prem Nath Dogra University will be a befitting tribute to Sher-e-Duggar who led the Praja Parishad Movement in 1947 for total integration of J&K with rest of India.
Dr Agnihotri said that it is high time for the Government to concede this demand so that the younger generations will know about this great leader of Jammu, his struggle and political life. He said Prem Nath Dogra was a national leader who with his capability, dedication and honesty was also elected as president of Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1955 now BJP.
Dr Agnihotri who was on a tour of Jammu also highlighted the visionary role of then ruler of J&K, Maharaja Hari Singh who had signed the instrument of accession of J&K with India. He said Maharaja Hari Singh during the time of partition when there were apprehensions that Highway to Jammu via Punjab may fall in the jurisdiction of Pakistan had suggested constructing of a new road via Himachal Pradesh to J&K.
He regretted that after independence the successive Congress Governments did not pay any heed to it nor they took interest in widening the Pathankot Srinagar National Highway. It was only during the regime of Atal Behari Vajpayee that the work on widening of National Highway was started.
