JAMMU, Sept 18: Chairperson of Haemophilia and Health Collective for North India (HHCN), Dr. Naresh Gupta former Director Prof. Medicine MAMC, Medical advisor Haemophilia Lok Nayak Hospital, New Delhi delivered interesting lectures which included, Approach to Bleeding Disorder (laboratory & clinical perspectives) and changing patterns of treatment of Haemophilia in India.
He was speaking at Hemo Conclave 2023 which was held at Gandhi Medical College Bhopal. The Conclave was organized by Haemophilia Society Bhopal Chapter under the aegis of Department of Pathology in association with Association of Pathologist & Microbiologist Bhopal.
He also conducted panel discussion on system challenges in management of Haemophilia.
President HHCN, Dr. K.K. Kaul, former Prof. & Head PG Department of Pathology & Chief Nodal Officer Haemophilia Care Centre GMC Jammu& Medical Advisor J&K Thalassaemia Welfare Society spoke on a complex and tough topic “Making Budgetary sense of Haemophilia Management and Data driven Decision Making”.
Dr. Kaul said that Haemophilia is a high cost low volume disease and since it is a lifelong condition it places a considerable financial burden on patients, Government, Health Care System and society as well. This burden is particularly large for patients with inhibitors who can develop serious bleeding complications unresponsive to routine factors and hence more costly by passing agents like rFVIIIa & aPCCare used.
Dr. Kaul explained how an ideal budget can be planned which will provide best possible treatment to persons with Haemophilia (PWH) with or without inhibitors and at the same time can save several lakhs to crores of Rupees.
Work shop on goal directed bleeding management by Rotational Thromboelastometry (ROTEM)& Capillary electrophoresis: best practices & interpretations were conducted by the experts on the subject. Eminent Haematologist, Haematopathologist, Pathologists & Laboratory Medicine Experts who spoke included Dr. S.P. Verma (KGMC Lacknow), Dr. Vishnu Sharma (Jaipur), Dr. Prashant Sharma (PGI Chandigarh), Dr. Ajay Gandhi (Associate Director, WERFEN), Dr. Anil Handoo (Principal Director & Head Lab Services &Haematologist BLK-Max SS Hospital, New Delhi), Dr. Rahul Bhargava, Principal Director & Chief Haematologist, Stem Cell & BMT experts (Fortis Memorial Research Institute Gurgaon), Prof. R.K Nigam, Dr. Archana Shrivastava (Bhopal) and Ramu H Gadkar, vice president-Development HFI.
Dr. Tejinder Singh, former Director Prof. & Head Department of Pathology MAMC, New Delhi gave a detailed account of Peripheral Smear in Haemoglobinopathies.
