IIMC organizes extension lecture on media units of MIB

JAMMU, Sept 19: Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Jammu organized an extension lecture on the topic ‘Structure & functions of media units of Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India’ today.
On the occasion, Rajinder Chaudhry (ADG, PIB & CBC Chandigarh) delivered the lecture and interacted with the students of English Journalism, Hindi Journalism and Digital Media.
In the extension lecture, Rajinder Chaudhry said, “Apart from several institutions, Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Press Information Bureau (PIB), All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD) are important part of MIB. PIB organizes vartalap, media tour, IMPCC meeting and press conference to aware about the programmes of the Government.”
Chaudhry also talked about the issues of misinformation. He explained the ways in which PIB is countering the spread of fake news through its fact-checking techniques. On the role and responsibility of the press, he explained that the role of journalist is very challengeable these days and social media has taken a greater space.
He said that the media has been depicting over the years and talked about the peaceful atmosphere in the image of Jammu & Kashmir. He also motivated the students and said that the upcoming journalist should know about three Ds as Determination, Dedication and Discipline. These three D’s is very helpful in their life.
Earlier, the lecture commenced with a gathering address by Dr Dilip Kumar, Associate Professor and was followed by a brief speech by Prof Anil Saumitra, Regional Director, IIMC Jammu.
The extension lecture concluded with a Question-Answer session in which the speaker talked about the contribution of PIB in bridging the gap between the Government and the public. The session ended with a closing speech by Ayushi Puri, Deputy Director (Administration), IIMC. The session was moderated by Yashi Navya, student of Digital Media, IIMC Jammu.
