JAMMU, Sept 20: While more organizations have shown their serious concern over the water crisis being faced by the inmates of Jagti township for last fortnight, a protest demonstration was held by Jagti Tenement Committee (JTC) and Soan Kashmir Front (SKF) in the township against the failure of authorities in restoring water supply to the camp.
The protest was held under the chairmanship of Shadi Lal Pandita, president JTC and SKF.
Addressing the protesters Pandita said that there is no drinking water in Jagti township for a fortnight now due to which the inmates of the township are facing difficulties. Pandita urged the Relief Department to restore the drinking water supply for Jagti migrants at the earliest.
All India Migrant Camp Coordination Committee (AIMCCC)
while demanding immediate restoration of water supply to the township has taken serious note of inhuman attitude of administration towards displaced KPS stationed in camps. AIMCCC in a meeting today chaired by its president, Desh Rattan Pandita said most sufferers are inmates of Jagti township who have been deprived of drinking water supply for last fortnight in present humid weather conditions. The hand pumps in the colony are not in working order which have further added to present water crisis in the township.
Meanwhile, the activists of various social and political organizations including Sunil Bhat president, Minority Wing PDP, Vinod Pandita a social activist, Ashwani Bhat, Ravinder Raina, Ashok Kumar Koul and others in a joint statement while expressing serious concern over the water crisis being faced by the inmates of Jagti township have sought immediate intervention of Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha in the matter.
They said that the camp inmates despite approaching concerned authorities appealing them to solve the water crisis have not got any respite and drinking water scarcity continues to persist as no serious efforts were made by the authorities in settling the crisis which has generated a lot of resentment among Jagti township inmates in particular and displaced people from Valley in general.
