In an impactful move, the Administrative Council (AC) led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has given its approval for the establishment of the “Jammu and Kashmir Sports Cadre” under the administrative authority of the Youth Services and Sports Department.
This significant decision is accompanied by the creation of 235 positions, including 10 Gazetted posts, designed for the appointment of exceptional sports talents. This marks the resolution of a prolonged struggle involving legal and procedural complexities, paving the way for the appointment of outstanding athletes.
The primary aim of these new regulations is to inspire young individuals to actively participate in sports and acknowledge and nurture outstanding talents.
This decision duly recognizes the remarkable achievements of sportspeople from Jammu and Kashmir on national and international platforms, underscoring the Government’s commitment to reinvigorating sports activities within the Union Territory.
The Government is dedicated to institutionalizing these appointments as an annual practice to create a conducive environment for sports development in J&K. Furthermore, appointing outstanding sports figures as mentors will significantly boost youth training and development, increasing their involvement in local, national, and global competitions.
