KATHUA, Sept 22: Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial Degree College Hiranagar organised a seminar on “Rising Urbanisation and its Impacts on Environment.” The seminar was sponsored by JK Science Technology and Innovation Council, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir.
The event was presided over by Principal of the College Dr. Pragya Khanna. The expert Speakers on the occasion were Prof. Shujat Khan, Dr. Shakun Sharma and Dr. Mehak Gupta.
The seminars begin with a formal welcome address by Dr. Arun Kumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology. He applauded the efforts of Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal G.L.D.M Degree College Hiranagar for her encouragement and cooperation in organizing such seminars. In the first session the participants from GCW Kathua, GDC Mahanpur, GDC Vijaypur and the host college presented their speeches on the topic. In the second part expert speakers shared their knowledge and information with the audience.
Prof. Shujat Khan, Professor in computer sciences, Co-ordinator IQAC and an activist in the field of social service enlightened the audience in understanding the dynamics of technology and digital platform in understanding and mitigating the impact of urbanisation on the environment. Dr. Shakun Sharma, Assistant Professor in Sociology from Govt. Degree College Marh Jammu spoke on the different aspects of urbanisation and the ways to ameliorate the social environment by taking different measures. Dr. Mehak Gupta, a Post- Doctoral fellow at SKUAST-Jammu elaborated on the ways to mitigate the negative impacts of urbanisation and the new possibilities it has brought in the agriculture and social world. The Principal of the College, Dr, Pragya Khanna applauded the efforts of the organisers and called upon the students to take a pledge to help tackle the harmful impacts urbanisation is having on the environment.
The judges for the seminar were Dr. Davinder Kaur, Prof. Poonam Kundan and Dr. Anil Kumar Dogra. Shubham of Semester 3rd of GLDM GDC Hiranagar stood for the first position.
