JAMMU, Sept 22: Terming the passing of the “Women’s Reservation Bill” as a historic event, former MLA and senior Congress leader, Indu Pawar today said that it was all due to efforts of the Congress party that the incumbent BJP-led NDA Government introduced the much awaited Bill in the Parliament.
Addressing a meeting, Pawar said that the bill has been passed in both houses. “This is a historic moment the women in our country. We demanded the bill to be implemented immediately and include OBC reservations as well,” she said and reminded that it was during the Congress government at the Centre that the Bill to grant political reservations to women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies was introduced.
She reminded that Congress is always at the forefront to politically empower women. She said that was during the Congress regime in J&K that political reservation was given to women in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Panchayat elections.
Notably, the Parliament passed the Women’s Reservation Bill which mandates a 33 percent reservation for women in both the Lok Sabha and State assemblies.
