Kulgam hit and run case solved, accused nabbed

SRINAGAR, Sept 25: Police in Kulgam today solved a hit-and-run case by arresting the accused person involved in the commission of the crime.
On September 22 of this year, police reported that an unknown truck collided with a Maruti Eeco car bearing registration No. JK06B-0901 near a walnut factory in the Qazigund area of Kulgam and then fled the scene.
In this accident, the police stated that the driver of the Maruti Eeco vehicle and six passengers were critically injured. They were immediately transported to Emergency Hospital Qazigund for treatment and later referred to GMC Anantnag for further medical care.
“Among the injured, four persons succumbed to their injuries,” the police said.
Accordingly, the police reported that a case was registered in Police Station Qazigund under FIR No. 206/2023, with relevant sections of the law, and an investigation was initiated.
“During the course of the investigation, the team led by SHO Police Station Qazigund, under the close supervision of SSP Kulgam, tirelessly made all efforts and collected evidence from CCTV cameras, toll plazas, telecom records, and other useful applications/services to identify the accused,” the police said.
After strenuous efforts, the police reported that the accused driver, identified as Aarif Ahmad Ellahi, son of Ghulam Rasool Ellahi, a resident of Nowgam, Verinag in Anantnag, who was involved in the commission of the crime, was arrested.
“The police team also recovered the involved vehicle (Truck) bearing registration number JK22-7103.
