JAMMU, Sept 25: In continuation to celebration of ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’, NSS and Health Centre SKUAST-J in collaboration with Blood Transfusion and Haematology Department GMC, Jammu, organised ‘Blood Donation Camp’ at main campus, Chatha.
DSW Dr Rajesh Katoch threw light on the importance of blood donation in saving precious human life.
Dr Subhash C Kashyap, NSS coordinator, said that in India every year about 1.50 lakh lives are lost due to road accidents and most of them are caused due to excess blood loss, hence, everybody should donate blood at least once in a year to save lives.
Dr Anil Gupta, Medical Officer of the health centre, along with Dr Mitali Sharma, Lecturer Blood Transfusion Department GMC, and PG student Dr Taseer Mehraj supervised the blood donation activities wherein, 33 units of blood was collected by the department for blood bank.
A great enthusiasm was observed among students for blood donation and long queues were seen for blood donation registration. Other University officers, who visited the camp, and praised the students for noble cause includes Dr S K Gupta Registrar and Dr Ashwani Sharma University Librarian. The programme was a part of series of activities under NSS. The programme was coordinated By Dr Arvinder Singh and Dr Sushmita Dadich and supervised by Dr Veena Sharma, Dr Balbir Dhotra and Neeraj Gupta NSS programme officers. Programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr Anil Gupta, Medical Officer Health Centre.
