SRINAGAR, Sept 25: In a dramatic rescue operation, the services of Dial 112 played a pivotal role in saving a stranded family in the remote and dense forest area of Bangus Valley. The family of 11 had lost their way while returning from a picnic, and their vehicle became immobilized.
According to police, on September 24, 2023, Dial-112 received a distress call regarding the incident. The distressed family consisted of one individual, identified as Atiq-ul-Rahman, along with ten family members, including five women and five small children, totaling eleven persons.
As per police, they had embarked on a picnic to Bangus Valley in Kupwara, using a Scorpio vehicle. However, their return journey took a turn for the worse when they opted for the Upper Rajwar Wader Bala route toward Handwara.
In the dense wilderness of the forest, police said, they lost their way, and their vehicle became stranded, rendering it incapable of further movement.
Faced with this dire situation, the family reached out for help by contacting Dial-112.
Upon receiving the distress call, Dial-112 promptly alerted the relevant police units operating in the area, requesting immediate assistance for the stranded family.
“In response to this urgent call, the Incharge of Police Post Zachaldara, along with a dedicated police team and support from the Army’s 21RR, launched a swift and coordinated rescue operation,” the police stated.
After strenuous efforts, the joint rescue team successfully reached the location, where they located the stranded family, ensuring the safety and well-being of all eleven individuals.
As per police, the family was then escorted to Police Post Zachaldara by the joint team, where they were provided with accommodation for the night and offered refreshments.
Furthermore, arrangements were made for a JCB to tow their immobilized vehicle from the forest. The family was subsequently escorted to the main road, allowing them to resume their journey home.
