NSS Foundation Day celebrated across Jammu region

JAMMU, Sept 25: The National Service Scheme (NSS) day was celebrated across Jammu Region by organising different programmes here today. The NSS scheme was launched on 24 September, 1969 aimed at developing student’s personality through community service.
The NSS Unit of the MIER College of Education celebrated NSS Day by organizing a guest lecture and demonstration on the subject of “First Aid and Casualty Management.” A group of Jammu-based Civil Defence Organization professionals serving as the team’s resource persons were R.D. Sahini, the team’s Manager, Purshotam and Rajendar, instructors. The resource persons emphasized first-aid casualty management and based on the triage system.
The NSS unit-II of GGM Science College celebrated NSS day at Home for Aged and Infirm Ambphalla under the patronage of Principal Prof. Rajesh Kumar Gupta and guidance of NSS PO Dr. Deepali Mahajan with zeal and enthusiasm. The volunteers collected the funds from NSS unit II and faculty of the college. The contribution was used to bring cake, eatable fruits and celebrated it with the elderly.
The NSS Units of Government SPMR College of Commerce Jammu celebrated NSS Day with great enthusiasm and zeal under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Surinder Kumar. Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu, Dr Bechan Lal was the chief guest while guest of honour was Registrar, Dr Jatinder Khajuria. The NSS volunteers took center stage, showcasing their talents and dedication through rousing speeches, energetic dances, melodious songs, thought-provoking skits, and cultural performances.
The NSS units Government College for Women Parade celebrated 55th NSS day with great fervour. About 150 NSS volunteers participated in the program. The volunteers felicitated were Mavi Sapolia, best NSS Volunteer for 2022, Tarandeep Kaur, best NSS volunteers for the year 2023 who was appreciated for receiving the Vice Chancellor Commendation Certificate for the year 2023. Other outgoing Volunteers who were felicitated included Amulya Singh, Usha Sharma, Mehak Dharma, Fatima Nissa, Muskan Kumari, Mehak Sharma and Shiena Singh who represented NSS at national level.
Government Degree College for Women, Kathua celebrated National Service Scheme (NSS) Day. Dr. Savi Behl, Principal of the college, expressed pride in the students’ active participation and their dedication to the NSS ethos. The entire event was organized and supervised by Dr. Arun Dev Singh (NSS Programme Officer) and other committee members: Prof. Raj Kumari, Prof. Pallavi and Dr. Rajni Khajuria.
Government Degree College, Darhal (Rajouri) organized a two day-long workshop to celebrate NSS foundation Day. On the first day, a cleanliness drive was launched at Abdullah Waterfall Darhal as a part of Swachh Bharat Mission with the active coordination of Prof. Tahir Mahmood (HoD English) while on the day second an “NSS Orientation and Awareness Workshop” was organized in the college premises.
The NSS Unit of Government Degree College, R. S. Pura celebrated the NSS Day under the patronage of Principal Dr. Rajni Bhagat and supervision of Prof. Bindu Kumari, NSS Program Officer. The cultural programme included dance items by Ritika, Simran, Kashish, Neetu, Poonam, Manisha, Yogita and Yogesh, Semester-I presented a Rap song composed by him.
The NSS Unit of Dogra Degree College, Bari Brahmana, (Samba) celebrated NSS Foundation Day by organizing a symposium competition on ‘Role of Youth in NSS’. Dr Bela Thakur, Principal, Dogra Degree College said that the college was committed to serving the society and also undertaking other community services in adopted villages of the institution. The winner in this category was Aradhana, student of BA Semester 5th, second position was bagged by Jatin Sharma, student of BA Semester 5th and 3rd position was bagged by Priyanka Charak, student of BBA Semester 3rd.
Jammu University’s Poonch campus organized a cleanliness drive in commemoration of NSS Day. The cleanliness drive was organized by the NSS In-charge of Poonch Campus, Kalpna Sudan, witnessed an impressive turnout of volunteers.
NSS unit of Government Degree College, Basohli organized a cultural cum awareness program to commemorate the NSS Day 2023 under the aegis of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” and “Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations”. The proceedings of the day commenced with the lamp lighting by the Principal, Dr. Nidhi Kotwal, NSS PO, Dr. R.K. Manhas, NCC ANO, Dr. Papinder Kumar, and the other faculty members. NSS song, cultural items, and motivational speech were the main attractions of the event.
