Kathua police recovers 3.7 kgs of Poppy Straw, arrests drug peddler

KATHUA, Sept 26: To eradicate the menace of drugs from the society and take stringent action against drug peddlers within the district, police recovered approximately 3.7 kilograms of Poppy Straw (Bhukki) like narcotics in the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS), Kathua near link road Mahi Chack area yesterday.
One narco smuggler was arrested and narcotic substance as well as one vehicle (Truck ) was seized on the spot in this connection.
Police said its team led by PSI, Ranbhir Singh in charge Police Post (PP) Nagri under the supervision of DySP Headquarters, Kathua, Manjeet Singh and SHO Police Station (PS), Kathua Inspector, Sudhir Sadhotra during routine naka/patrolling in its jurisdiction at Mahi Chak area intercepted one vehicle (truck) bearing Registration No. JK08H0474 being driven by a person namely Mohammad Gani, son of Mareed of Ward No. 06 near GMS, Fagulta Bani Fatehpur, district Kathua who has loaded poppy straw like narcotics in his truck and was coming from New Sakta Chak towards link road Mahi Chak to sell the same to the people to get wrongful gain.
During the checking of the vehicle approximately 3.7 kilograms of Poppy Straw (Bhukki) like narcotics was recovered.
Thereafter all the recovered narcotic substance (Bhukki) along with vehicle (truck) was seized and one person was arrested in this regard. A case FIR No. 421/2023 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station (PS), Kathua and further investigation is underway.
