However, no heavy passenger vehicle or truck would be allowed, he said adding no vehicle will be allowed from Jammu as only one way traffic will ply on the highway till further orders because of heavy snowfall recently and slipper road conditions.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway has pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to keep the highway through as road often become slippery at Shaitan Nallah because snow was coming from top on the road due to heavy winds in the area.
The BRO was also trying to widen road at Chenani where a portion of road was washed away, official sources said adding as soon as the road widening will be completed, heavy passenger vehicles and trucks would be allowed.
The highway was re-opened yesterday after remaining closed for three days due to three to four feet of snowfall at several places, including Jawahar tunnel, Banihal and Patnitop.
However, the highway was put through after the BRO cleared the snow though vehicles had to pass through snow walls at several places. It has been decided to allow only one way traffic to avoid traffic jam and accident. (AGENCIES)
