JAMMU, Sept 27: Close on the heels of the death of a man from Udhampur due to dengue, another 52-year-old man from the district succumbed to the vector-borne disease while 71 fresh cases of dengue were reported today from various parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
As per reports, a 52 year-old man identified as Charan Dass of Udhampur district succumbed to dengue early morning of Tuesday at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu. The deceased was referred from District Hospital Udhampur and was undergoing treatment at GMC Jammu.
Meanwhile, a Health official said that 445 people were screened today for dengue in Jammu province out of which 71 turned out to be positive. Of the 71 positive cases, 44 cases were reported from Jammu district while 13 cases were reported from Udhampur, 8 from Samba, 3 from Rajouri, 2 from Reasi and 1 from other part of the country. The positive patients include 54 adults and 17 children, he added.
He said maximum 1312 cases reported so far are from Jammu district followed by Samba district with 15 cases and Kathua 146 cases. “There were 81 cases in Udhampur, 34 in Rajouri, 18 in Reasi, 17 in Doda, 14 in Poonch, 4 in Ramban, 2 in Kishtwar, 13 in Kashmir and 14 from other parts of the country,” the official said.
He further informed that a total of 593 dengue patients have been admitted to the hospitals till date and of these, 517 have been discharged and 65 patients are still under treatment.
“The dengue cases are rising with each day,” the official said, and advised that citizens should ensure no stagnation of water in and around their houses as mosquitoes responsible for dengue breed in stagnant water. He said that water filled utensils and tanks should be kept covered and the cooler should be emptied twice a week.
