UDHAMPUR, Sept 30: Skeleton of a person missing for the last six months, was recovered this morning from forest area located about one and a half kilometers away from Chigli Chori in Ramnagar town.
The deceased has been identified as Ashok Kumar (35), son of Prem Nath, resident of Bhugatayan, who was missing since March 24, this year. His identity was established from the items in a bag found near the skeleton.
As one hand of the deceased was missing, Police believe that a severed hand found in mouth of a stray dog six months ago was of this person, who had apparently committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree.
A noose made of cloth was also found tied from a tree there. The bag, which was recovered from the site, contained a Tiffin box and a small bottle of liquor.
The skeleton was spotted by some locals who had gone to the forest in search of their cattle. On being informed, a Police team from Police Station Ramnagar, led by SDPO Vishal Manhas and SHO Ramnagar Sohan Singh reached the spot.
On the basis of preliminary investigations, Police believe that it was a case of suicide as no injury marks were found on the skeleton. The person seemed to have committed suicide and the body remained hanging for several days till it transformed into a skeleton, disintegrated and fell down. However, the spotting of the deceased’s severed hand three days after his disappearance was still a matter of investigation. Police have registered the case under Section 174 and started investigation.
As per the deceased’s wife, Pushpa Devi, her husband had gone out of the house for work on March 24. When he did not return home till evening, a missing report was lodged at Ramnagar Police Station on March 25. “He used to work as a hard laborer in Ramnagar. When he left the house, his mobile phone had also got switched off after some time,” she narrated.
