Srinagar, Oct 2: Special Director General (CID) RR Swain today said that police is trying its every bit to root out fear from the common man’s heart and mind.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a mega Kashmir marathon organised by police, Swain said that police are quietly fighting against the enemy which is “organised” after using outside support and influence.
Swain said that J&K Police is a unique force in the country that faces an organized enemy which is growing stronger with external support. “What sets this enemy apart is that the police in J&K are fighting for the people alongside them. This makes the challenge more difficult, requiring a special kind of courage that other forces may not possess,” he said.
“While other forces have their own expertise, skills and knowledge, the challenges they face are different from ours. Despite the difficulties, we continue to fight quietly, with one clear goal in mind – to protect the common person who often goes unheard. This includes individuals from all walks of life, such as small-time shopkeepers, government employees, journalists, lawyers, and even local mosque caretakers, who earn an honest living within the boundaries of the law. Jammu and Kashmir police are here for them,” he said.

He said that the primary objective of the force in this fight is to reduce fear and assure everyone that Police is committed to their safety. “Today, on Gandhi Jayanti, we have chosen to hold this event for a specific reason. Gandhi advocated non-violence, but true non-violence can only be achieved by protecting peaceful individuals from those who resort to violence. Therefore, we want to make a clear distinction between those who embrace violence for ulterior motives – they are our adversaries. Our fight is, and always will be, for the people,” he said.
The event coincided with Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. “Gandhiji always promoted non-violence,” the CID chief said.
Referring to the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi about the Police, the CID chief said that ‘success of Police is possible only with the support and cooperation of people. He said Police is from the people, for the people and can deliver only with the support of people.
Swain said that it has been the rich history of J&K Police to work against people involved in unlawful activities for the larger interest of the public. He said that Police is committed to continue work for the safety, security and welfare of the people who abide by the rule of the law to the best possible extent.
