Two held for impersonating as IPS officer, Inspector

JAMMU, Oct 3: Police claimed here today that they have arrested two individuals, who were impersonating as a Police Inspector and an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jammu, Chandan Kohli, said that the accused were arrested from a hotel in Jewel area.

According to him, one person approached Police Station Nowabad, claiming he was threatened by two individuals impersonating as IPS officer and Inspector.
Quoting the complaint, the police officer said that the complainant met one Kaiser Jeelani on social networking site, who portrayed himself as an IPS officer and gradually befriended the complainant.
“Finally, they met each other in a hotel in Jewel area,” said the SSP Jammu.
The SSP Jammu said that when the complainant entered the hotel room in Jammu, one who identified himself as Kaiser Jeelani and another person accompanying him portrayed themselves as IPS officer and Inspector. Later, they started harassing the complainant by demanding his laptop. The duo also threatened the complainant of dire consequences on his failure to hand them over the laptop.
Acting on the written complaint, a case FIR number 166/2023 under sections 419/420/384/170/171 of the IPC was registered at Police Station Nowabad and further investigation taken up, said the police officer.
Followed by this, he said, special teams of Police Station Nowabad led by SP Kulbir Handa, DySP Headquarters Dr Sunniya Wani, assisted by SHO Nowabad Surinder Raina arrested the duo from the hotel.
The accused were later identified as Kaiser Shahnawaz Mir and Mohammad Tanveer alias Arif Wani of Baramulla.
Police have started further investigation into the matter.
