SRINAGAR, Oct 3: Charandeep Singh, Director, Rural Sanitation, Jammu and Kashmir, has been honored by the Jammu and Kashmir Government for his exceptional dedication and outstanding leadership in advancing cleanliness through the Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen (SBM-G 2.0), resulting in the achievement of ODF Plus Modal Status.
The certificate of achievement was presented to Charandeep Singh by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The event took place during the ‘Swachh Bharat Diwas’ celebration organized by the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj at Raj Bhawan, Srinagar.
Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta and Commissioner Secretary to Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, were also present.
During the event, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, praised the Rural Development Department, representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions, and the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir for achieving 100% cleanliness and successful solid and liquid waste management across all 6,650 villages.
A notable achievement highlighted during the celebration was the initiation of door-to-door waste collection in all Panchayats. Additionally, segregation sheds have been established, and a financial model has been developed to ensure the sustainability of waste collection mechanisms, with the aim of transforming waste into a valuable resource, as stated by the Lt Governor.
Furthermore, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha commended the Directorate of Rural Sanitation for its innovative ‘Swachhata Bulletin’ initiative, which monitors and shares daily updates and activities by districts. This initiative encourages community members to engage actively in contributing to a “Swachh and Swasth Jammu and Kashmir.”
As part of the event, four booklets pertaining to SBM-G were released, providing guidelines for door-to-door waste collection, legacy waste management, safe sanitation index, and Panchayat Sanitation Index. These resources are expected to further enhance the sanitation and cleanliness efforts in the region.
