Work on Peeda-Kunfer tunnel nears completion

RAMBAN, Oct 3: The construction work on the additional two-lane Peeda-Kunfer tunnel T2 is near completion.
Engineers of NHAI said the additional 794 meters of tunnel T-2 is a part of the ongoing four-lane project of NHAI on Udhampur and Ramban section of Jammu Srinagar NH-44 and work is near to complete.
Peeda-Kunfer, 924 meter two-lane tunnel T1, was inaugurated on April 11, 2023 by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and it has bypassed 2.9 km, congested, Zig-Zag and accident-prone area between Nashri and Chanderkote.
The Peeda-Kunfer double lane tunnels were started in 2018 by Gammon India Company engaged by NHAI.
Tube-1, Peeda-Kunfer tunnel on Srinagar Jammu National Highway is already functional and the work on additional tunnel nears completion as the remaining works from Peeda side is almost completed only road leveling work from Peeda side is remaining.
Engineers of NHAI said tube (T2) of the Peeda-Kunfer tunnel is almost ready and it will take some time to become operational.
DC, Ramban, Mussarat Islam said the work on several small and major tunnels, bridges and flyovers between Nashri and Banihal in Ramban district is in progress.
