Police foils bovine smuggling bids, rescues 38 animals

KATHUA, Jan 6: Police foiled major bovine smuggling bids and rescued 38 milch animals.
On the intervening night of January 5 and 6, police party from Rajbagh Police Station laid a naka at Paharpur road and intercepted three trucks bearing registration number PB35Q-2383, JK02X-6077 and JK02AA-6933, SP Kathua Mohan Lal said.
During checking, police rescued 34 bovine animals and arrested a smuggler, who has been identified as Najakat, son of Khalid of Laren, Tehsil Kokernag district Anantnag, at present Bye Pass Nagrota, SP added.
The trucks were seized and efforts are going on to arrest the absconding accused, who managed to fled from the spot.
A case under FIR number 4/14 under Section 188 RPC, 3/5 PC Act has been registered at Police Station Rajbagh and investigation started.
In another incident, during the intervening night of January 5 and 6, police party from Hiranagar Police Station laid a naka at Londi Morh and intercepted Mahindra Load carrier bearing registration number JK08B-8165, SP added.
On noticing the naka, the driver of the vehicle fled away leaving behind the vehicle, SP said, adding that 4 bovine animals, which were being smuggled to Kashmir were rescued.
A case under FIR number 2/14 under Section 188 RPC, 3 PC Act, 184, 177 and 119 MV Act stand registered at Police Station Hiranagar and manhunt has been launched to arrest the smuggler.
Meanwhile, the residents of village Barnoti held a protest demonstration against increase in the smuggling of bovine animals.
The protestors said the farming community depends on bovines and smuggling of the same has created a fear of fiasco among them.
They said that the smuggling of bovine is alarming and police must take serious cognizance of this.
