Six thieves nabbed; stolen articles including service weapon of Police officer recovered

LEH, Oct 5: District Police Leh has cracked a theft case of service weapon and 4 other house theft cases by arresting six accused and recovering various stolen items including the service weapon of a police officer from the accused.

Addressing a press conference here today, SSP Leh PD Nitya said that acting on a complaint filed on 25-09-2023 by ASI Asgar Ali that some unknown thieves struck his house and decamped with several household items including a Government issued pistol and 35 bullets (ammunition), which he had locked in a steel locker in his house, a case FIR Number 165/2023 US 457, 380 IPC was registered at Police Station Leh and investigation started.
She said during the process of investigation, Leh Police, based on the human and technical intelligence, succeeded in apprehending the suspects from a vehicle at Qazigund on 26/09/2023 at around 12:05 hours, with the help of J&K Police. “During the search of the vehicle, a service pistol and 35 rounds along with 34 other articles suspected to be stolen were recovered from the vehicle and two persons namely Jiyarul Sheikh son of Lalchand Sheikh Brahmanigram of Kolkata and Mohd Nizam Mullah son of Himayat Mullah of JJ Colony (Delhi), who were travelling in the vehicle, were arrested in this connection.
“On further investigation, involvement of two more persons came to light and accordingly Leh Police apprehended two more suspects namely Mohd Sahil son of Mohd Himmat of Kolkata and Pervaiz Shiekh son of Forooq Sheikh of Kolkata, on 29-09-2023. During interrogation, the four accused confessed to have stolen the service weapon from the home of ASI Asgar Ali and accordingly Section 7/25 of Arms Act was added. They also confessed to have committed multiple thefts at various places including Nubra, Chimday, Solar Colony etc and recoveries were made based on the confessions,” the Officer disclosed.
She said on the disclosure of the accused, some stolen property sold to Asiya Rasool Sheikh (Alias Kani), daughter of Ghulam Rasool Shiekh, resident of Hari Singh Street (Srinagar), was recovered from Ram Kali wife of Partap, resident of New Delhi (at present Khalsar Nubra). Accordingly recoveries were made from her possession and she was arrested on 04-10-2023 by Police Station Nubra.
Till date recoveries have been made in five cases vide FIR Number 45/2023 of Police Station Leh, FIR Number 165/2023 of Police Station Leh, FIR Number 166/2023 of Police Station Leh, FIR Number 167/2023 of Police Station Leh and FIR Number 25/2023 of Police Station Nubra.
“The stolen property so recovered majorly consists of jewellery of gold, silver and other precious stones, silver utensils and some electronic items etc. Three vehicles including two Maruti Vans and one TATA-207 pickup truck, suspected to have been used in the commission of crimes, have been seized,” the SSP said, adding, further investigation regarding their involvement in other theft cases is going on.
