KPs demand rehabilitation, economic aid

Srinagar, Oct 5: The Hindu Welfare Society of Kashmir today urged the Government to fulfil its promise of rehabilitating the internally displaced Pandits and providing them with much-needed economic assistance.
A spokesperson for the society voiced their concerns, emphasising the dire economic hardships faced by the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community, who has yet to receive any form of cash assistance or relief.
He said that amidst the escalating turmoil, the primary concern for Kashmiri Pandits remains the challenge of rehabilitation. “For 25 long years, 51 displaced families of Kashmiri Pandits have endured numerous hardships without any relief. They were forced to leave their ancestral homes and have settled in different areas of Srinagar city on a rented basis,” he said.
Highlighting the government’s earlier commitment, he said that the government had, in principle, agreed to provide rehabilitation to the internally displaced Kashmiri Pandits. “Feedback and inputs were collected from various sources, including IGP Kashmir, regarding the verification of 51 aspirants reviewed from Police Headquarters Srinagar for rehabilitation at Sheikh Pora quarters, Budgam. However, it is regrettable that the state government has shown complete apathy to our issues, and no follow-up progress has been made thus far,” he said.
