SRINAGAR, Oct 5: A Corporator of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Aqib Bilal Renzu was booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) and was shifted to Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu.
Renzu who was arrested for sexual harassment of a girl last month was on police remand in Police Station Nishat where from he was shifted to Kot Bhalwal. He was booked under PSA (No. DMS- 69-2023 Dt 04-10-23).
Renzu son of Bilal Ahmed Renzu of Sheeraz Chowk, Khanyar presently residing at Karpora Brane in Nishat area of Srinagar was arrested after a girl lodged a complaint of sexual harassment and stalking against him.
The Srinagar girl who is into modelling lodged a complaint with the Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar alleging that Renzu was seeking sexual favours from her for introducing her to Lt Governor’s office. He has allegedly told the girl that he is close to the LG Manoj Sinha and she has presented technical evidence to the SSP for this. He was also stalking her.
Police registered a case (FIR No 50/2023) at the RM Bagh Police Station under Sections 354, 354A and 354D of the Indian Penal Code, based on the complaint and he was later arrested.
An official said that police have gathered evidence that he was habitual of sexually exploiting girls after luring them in the name of providing them jobs and other favours. He was calling himself as Additional Mayor of Srinagar and was misusing his official position.
There are six more cases registered against Renzu. They are FIR no. 11/2013 Police Station Nishat, FIR no 81/2014 Police Station Nishat, FIR no 60/2019 Police Station Nishat, FIR no. 61/2015 Police Station Khanyar, FIR no. 100/2020 Police Station Nishat and FIR no. 127/2020 Police Station Nishat.
These cases have been registered against him in various offenses.
