Police foil bid to smuggle 250 logs of forest wood, arrest 4 persons

RAMBAN, Oct 6: Banihal Police today foiled a bid to smuggle 250 logs of forest wood and arrested four persons in this connection.
Acting on a tip off that some persons have illegally cut the forest wood from Forest Compartment 29 of Mahoo Forest area and after loading the logs in two different vehicles, they are trying to take away the same towards Kashmir, a team of Police Post Khari led by PSI Akash Magotra intercepted the two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK03K 9985 and JK03H 7860 and recovered 250 logs of forest wood loaded on the vehicles.
Accordingly, the recovered wooden logs were seized and the four persons travelling in the two vehicles arrested. In this connection, a case FIR Number 244/2023 U/S 379 IPC, 26 Forest Act was registered at Police Station Banihal and further investigation initiated. The arrested accused were identified as Ashiq Hussain Mantoo son of Mohd Ayoub Mantoo of Waltingoo Kund (Kulgam), Abdul Rashid Paray son of Mohd Akbar Paray of Kulgam, Mudassir Nazir Bhat son of Nazir Ahmed Bhat of Anantnag and Sajad Ahmed Mir son of Ghulam Nabi Mir of Kulgam.
The recovery and arrest was made by PSI Akash Magotra (Incharge, Police Post Khari) under the guidance of Inspector Mohd Afzal Wani (SHO PS Banihal).
