DODA, Oct 6: A contractor was booked by the police for allegedly manhandling and threatening a public servant in this town on October 3rd.
Abdul Rashid Bohru of Bhambhoore, Doda, who is one of the partners in M/S Bhuru Constructions, was booked in case FIR number 216/2023 under Sections 353, 332, 504, and 506 of the IPC at Police Station Doda on the complaint of one Satpal Singh of Nanak Nagar, Jammu. The latter is the Branch Manager of J&K Bank Limited, Branch Office, Doda (Main).
In his complaint addressed to SHO Doda, a copy of which is in possession of the Excelsior, Satpal Singh claimed that the loan accounts of the borrower (accused)/his partnership firm had come under the Special Mention Account (SMA)-2, and their two instalments were overdue.
Pertinently, Special Mention Accounts are those assets/accounts that show symptoms of bad asset quality in the first 90 days itself or before they’re identified as Non-Performing Assets (NPA), and SMA-2, in particular, are those assets/accounts in which the overdue period is between 61 days to 90 days.
The complainant further mentioned in his complaint that the borrower was time and again requested to clear the overdue, but they were reluctant to clear the outstanding with intentions of misappropriating the bank fund.
“Since the borrower intended for wrongful gains, the bank, as per norms, deducted the overdue amount from the firm’s own account and later credited it to his (borrower’s) loan account of the same firm,” he wrote in the complaint, adding, “but deducting the overdue from the firm’s account irked the accused to this extent that on October 3rd, 2023, he entered my premises and started scolding me in the presence of other staff.”
Later, as per the complaint, the accused threatened the Branch Manager with dire consequences and beat him, followed by chasing him to the Advance Section of the Bank and the Zonal Office of the bank at Khan Plaza, Doda, where the accused further beat the public servant and threatened him with his life.
Acting on the complaint of the banker, the police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to arrest the accused, who is at large since the commissioning of the crime.
