Three held for stealing Rs 1.70 lakh worth ornaments from passenger train

JAMMU, Oct 7: Railway Police claimed here today that they have arrested three inter-state burglars for their involvement in stealing gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 1.70 lakh from a passenger train in Jammu.
A police spokesperson said that on October 10, 2022, a woman approached Police Station GRP Jammu with a complaint that her gold/silver ornaments were stolen by unknown thieves in a moving train at Platform number 1 of the Jammu Tawi Railway Station.
Acting on the written complaint, he said, a case FIR number 15/2022 under section 380 of the IPC was registered at Police Station GRP Jammu and subsequently investigation started.
During investigation, he further said that number of suspects were interrogated and technical evidences were collected. In this regard, he added that a SIT was constituted by SSP Railway Jammu Mohan Lal Kaith under the overall supervision of Albeena Malik, SDPO Railway Jammu.
The police spokesperson said that the investigating teams conducted several raids during the course of the investigation under the stewardship of Inspector Madan Lal in Haryana.
On October 3, 2023, he said, three accused were finally arrested, who confessed to their involvement in the commissioning of the crime and on their disclosure, the stolen ornaments were recovered.
In the last three months, Railway Police under the leadership of Niaz Ahmed, SHO Police Station GRP Jammu, have recovered more than 200 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 14.5 lakh in FIRs number 15/2022 and 15/2023.
