DHSK workshop discusses tobacco industry interference

SRINAGAR, Oct 10: The DHSK’s Tobacco Control unit organized a workshop today to address the implementation of measures aimed at preventing the Tobacco Industry from interfering with public health policies.
The workshop commenced with the inauguration by Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, Director of Health Services in Kashmir, and Dr. Tabassum, Director of Family Welfare, J&K. Several other officials from the Health Department and NGOs were also in attendance.
During the workshop, speakers from the Tobacco Control Units of both Jammu and Kashmir highlighted the various measures and awareness campaigns being undertaken to combat tobacco use.
Dr. Rather emphasized the department’s commitment to collaborating with the UT administration to rigorously enforce all legal measures to reduce tobacco consumption.
Dr. Tabassum commended the efforts of the health department and administration in raising awareness about tobacco control.
Parvaiz Ahmad Raina, Deputy Commissioner of Enforcement at the Central Taxation Department, provided insights into the department’s substantial role in preventing tobacco consumption and industry interference in policy-making.
Dr. Shivam, the technical advisor, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the implementation of WHO FCTC article 5.3.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mir Mushtaq, Nodal Officer for the National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP) in Kashmir, and Dr. Mridula Singh, Nodal Officer for NTCP in Jammu, offered detailed presentations on the NTCP’s initiatives within the Union Territory.
