SRINAGAR, Oct 10:
The upper reaches of Kashmir valley received fresh snowfall while the plains were lashed by rain, plummeting the temperature today.
Meteorological Centre Srinagar today predicted weather to remain mostly cloudy in Kashmir, Doda-Kishtwar in Jammu division, with a chance of a brief spell of rain or snowfall over higher reaches.
It said another intermittent light to moderate rain or snowfall over higher reaches is likely at many places in Jammu and Kashmir, with chances of 60-70 percent rainfall from October 14-17.
The weather will mainly remain dry from October 11-13, the MeT office said.
Kongdoori, Affarwat, at the ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, received snowfall much to the delight of the tourists staying there.
The reports of snowfall were also received from Baltal, Sonamarg, Sheshnag, Pahalgam, the Cave Shrine of Amarnath, the upper alleviation of Shopian district in south Kashmir, the Pirpanjal range of mountains, Sinthan Top, Razdan Top, and other higher reaches of the Valley.
The traffic on the strategic Sonamarg-Zojila road connecting Ladakh was closed due to snowfall and slippery road conditions. However, the traffic on the road was put through after clearance and an improvement in the weather, Kargil Police said on X.
The plains of the Kashmir valley, including the summer capital of Srinagar, received widespread moderate rains overnight, resulting in a considerable drop in the temperature all across.
Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 9.5 degree Celsius, and it also received 16.7mm of rainfall.
Pahalgam had a low of 6.0 degree Celsius, Kokernag 7.6 degree Celsius and Gulmarg 1.0 degree Celsius today, the MeT office said. (UNI)
