SRINAGAR, Oct 10 : Security in Kashmir has been heightened ahead of the visit of President of India Droupadi Murmu to Srinagar tomorrow to attend convocation of Kashmir University.
Security forces have been placed on alert, with increased personnel deployed to key areas. “Checkpoints and barricades have been set up at strategic locations, and additional surveillance measures have been activated to monitor any potential security threats,” an official said.
“Additional security personnel have been deployed across Kashmir, especially around the University campus. A three-tier security grid will be put in place tomorrow during the President’s visit while drone surveillance will be carried out at the venue. Both human and technical means will be used to ensure an incident-free event,” an official said.
The security agencies were working in close coordination with Central security agencies to ensure a seamless security apparatus.
Authorities have also urged residents and the public to cooperate with security personnel during this period. “The public was advised to adhere to security protocols and traffic regulations to minimize disruptions during the President’s visit,” the official said.
During her first visit to Kashmir, the President is scheduled to address 20th convocation at Kashmir University, besides honouring the meritorious students from 2020 onwards. More than 400 students will receive gold medals and M.Phil and PhD degrees during the event.
After the convocation, there are plans for a light and sound show by the Dal lake in her honour in the evening. The convocation would also be attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
Sinha chaired a meeting to review the arrangements ahead of the visit of President Droupadi Murmu. He appraised the preparations for the convocation of the University of Kashmir to be graced by the President.
He also reviewed the security arrangements and directed for implementation of a meticulous traffic plan in view of the President’s visit.
Director General of Police Dilbag Singh chaired a separate meeting to review the security ahead of the President’s visit to Kashmir.
Dilbag Singh, chaired a joint meeting of senior officers of Police, CRPF, Army and Intelligence agencies at the Conference Hall, Police Control Room Kashmir to review the security arrangements regarding the visit of President to Srinagar.
During the meeting, security arrangements put in place for the President’s visit including detailed deployment enroute and in & around the venues were deliberated upon, the officials said.
Deployment of manpower from different forces and intelligence agencies and coordination aspects were also discussed in the meeting.
