Student killed, 16 hurt in mishap

JAMMU, Jan 8: A student was killed and 16 others were injured, when the mini-bus they were traveling in plunged into a deep gorge near Manda here today.
The ill-fated mini-bus bearing registration number JK02AX-7024 was on its way to Nagrota from Jammu, when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it fell into a deep gorge near Manda, resulting into serious injuries to all the passengers.
On getting information, locals and police party from Pacca Danga Police Station led by SHO Mahesh Sharma rushed to the spot and started rescue operation.
All the injured were rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in police and other vehicles.
At GMC Hospital, doctors pronounced Gurjeet Singh (21), son of Joginder Singh of Baramulla Singh Pura and a student of Government Degree College, Baramulla as brought dead, while the condition of the injured was stated to be out of danger, when last reports poured in.
The injured have been identified as Vinay Kumar, son of Mulkh Raj, Mulkh Raj, son of Dewan Chand, Kuldeep Singh, son of Chamail Singh, Bachno Devi, wife of Raju Sharma, Bal Krishan, son of Sansar Chand, Kaka Singh, son of Jameet Singh, Kailash Kumari, wife of Kuldeep Raj, Surinder Dutta, son of Daljeet Dutta, Nitish Basu, son of Ganesh Dutt, Sakka Jakhir, daughter of Nazir Ahmed, Meenakshi, daughter of Govind Ram, Sheela, wife of Bal Krishan, Manmeet Singh, son of Kavi Raj Singh, Sumit Pandita, son of Surinder Pandita and Rajni Devi, wife of Shanker Singh, all residents of Nagrota and Sunil Singh, son of Baldev Singh of Jhajjar Kotli.
A case under FIR number 6/14 under Section 279 and 337 RPC has been registered at Pacca Danga Police Station and investigation started.
