PULWAMA, Oct 12: Sarpanch Hanipora, Pulwama Rattan Lal Pandita has demanded immediate start of Nehama Banagund Irrigation Scheme to solve the problems of thousands of farmers in the area.
In a statement issued here, today Pandita said that the scheme which was completed last year after the hard efforts of the people and public representatives has not been made functional due to non-installation of a transformer for water supply.
The Sarpanch, who visited the area today said over 1600 kanals of paddy land in this fertile area of South Kashmir are without irrigation facilities due to failure of authorities to make the much talked about Irrigation scheme functional. He said already the scheme has been delayed for years together and was totally abandoned in 2017. It was with the hard efforts of people of the area and public representatives that the work was resumed on this Rs 2.8 crore water supply scheme and its execution was completed last year. However the farmers’ woes continue due authorities’ failure to install a transformer for making the scheme functional. Pandita urged the Government to take immediate steps in making the scheme functional by installing a transformer otherwise the construction of scheme and spending huge amount on it is totally useless.
Expressing serious concern over acute shortage of drinking water in the Halqa Hanipora and other areas of block Newa he demanded that the area be immediately connected with Sukhnag water Supply Scheme. The Sarpanch who also started macadamization of Wanpora, Banagund and Lolipora road and assured the people that their burning issues will be brought in the notice of the authorities.
He also demanded construction of road to Sukhraj Bairav in the area for which the proposal has been already submitted by him to the Government.
