JAMMU, Oct 13: The Sparkle Women’s Club collaborated with the Amar Singh Club and J&K Thallasaemia Welfare Society to organise a blood donation camp here in the Amar Singh Club Auditorium for the Thalassemic Children.
Thalassemia, a severe genetic and inherited blood disorder, prevents the normal synthesis of adult blood hemoglobin after birth and leads to the rapid destruction of red blood cells, resulting in severe anaemia. Thalassemic patients require regular blood transfusions every 2-4 weeks, and sometimes even as frequently as every 10 days, for the duration of their lives.
In a noble endeavour, the Sparkle Women’s Club and Amar Singh Club united for this cause, shedding light on the significance of blood donation.
The project was spearheaded by Sapna Sethi of the Sparkle Club, with the support of executive members including Poonam Sethi (chairperson), Mona Mehta, Rashi Sachdev, Chetna Khullar, Gunjan Kohli, Shivani Gupta, Mini Bhagotra, Benu Lakra, Sarika Sethi, and Vibha Sachdeva.
Collaborating with the Amar Singh Club, Secretary Anil Kapahi, Sanjay Sethi (Chairman of the Health Club), and all executive members were actively present during the blood drive.
Er Sudhir Sethi, the President of the J&K Thalassemia Society, extended his encouragement and applause to the donors and all society members, including Shammi Kapoor and Puneet Gandotra.
Dr Navneet Kaur, Secretary-General of the Indian Society for Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology in J&K, as well as the President of the Young Blood Association and Founder Chairperson of NGO SUPPORT, motivated the women of the Sparkle Club.
She honored them with an Award of Excellence for their voluntary blood donation.
Dr Kaur emphasized the critical role of lifesaving blood donations for hospital patients in need of emergency medical care that simply cannot wait.
The blood donation camp was conducted under the direct supervision of Dr Neeti Dutt (Medical Officer), Rakesh Dogra, and Erica, a dedicated lab technician.
