POONCH, Oct 13: A villager and his son were seriously injured when they were attacked by a wild bear in remote Surankote area of Poonch district last evening.

Official sources said the incident took place in Hari Nakka area of Tehsil Surankote when both Mohd Khurshid (50), son of Mohd Hussain resident of Hari and his son, Mudasar Iqbal (18), were cutting grass in the fields at some distance from their house at the village. A full grown bear suddenly attacked the son and when the father ran for his rescue, he too was attacked and injured,
Both father and the son grappled with the wild beast but later leaving both of them in injured condition, the bear escaped towards nearby forest. The family members and villagers then shifted them to District Hospital, Poonch for treatment. The family alleged that due to lack of staff, their treatment was delayed at the hospital.
Medical Superintend of District Hospital, Poonch, Dr Zulfiqar Ali said there was lot of blood loss of the patients due to long distance up to hospital from their village. They had sustained injuries at the face and hands. Their condition was now stable. He denied the allegations of delay in treatment.
