JAMMU, Oct 13: Virender Gupta, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Chowki Choura, led his revenue team on a series of proactive visits to various Government establishments, ensuring adherence to regulations and the welfare of the community.
During an inspection of the Power Development Department’s STD 6.3 MVA receiving station at Chowki Choura, Gupta was dismayed to find the duty room unattended.
Taking swift action, he contacted the Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of the STD Wing, instructing them to ensure that officials do not leave the receiving station unattended in the future.
Gupta also made an unscheduled visit to the Government Middle School in Chowki Choura. There, he examined the quality and quantity of meals being served to students under the Mid-Day-Meal Scheme, and was pleased to find that they met the prescribed standards, ensuring the well-being of the students.
He also conducted a surprise inspection of the nearby seed store operated by the Agriculture Department. He observed that the officials responsible had neglected to maintain proper record of stock issued and the balance in store. Given the ongoing harvesting and sowing season, Gupta emphasized the need for an immediate update of the required records.
In line with the Revenue Department’s recent efforts to remove illegal encroachers, Gupta ventured to village Kadooma of Kanehari Panchayat. There, he oversaw the reclamation of a piece of shamlot land, measuring 10 kanals and valued at over Rs 20 lakhs, from encroachers. This operation was made possible with active police assistance from the SDPO of Akhnoor.
A makeshift structure on the reclaimed land was subsequently demolished with the support of local residents and Gupta’s revenue team.
The co-sharers of this piece of land expressed their gratitude for Gupta’s efforts and urged that it be used for the betterment of underprivileged people in the area.
