JAMMU, Oct 13: One more person has succumbed to dengue while as 119 fresh cases of the vector-borne disease were reported today from various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, taking the total number of cases so far this year to 3271 and the number of deaths to 4.
A Health official said that a 20-year-old male namely Tejpal Pratap of Bihar, who was presently staying at CTM Colony Kathua succumbed to dengue in Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu on October 10. He said the patient was diagnosed as suffering from dengue fever in GMC Kathua on October 3 and he was shifted to GMCH Jammu on October 10.
“This is the fourth death in Jammu province and 1st in Kathua district due to dengue this year,” he said, adding with this death, the number of deaths due to the vector-borne disease so far this year has reached to 4.
The official further informed that 828 people were screened today for dengue out of which 119 turned out to be positive. Of the 119 positive cases, 66 cases were reported from Jammu district while 26 cases were reported from Udhampur, 11 from Kathua, 6 from Samba, 4 from Reasi, 3 from Doda, 2 from Poonch and 1 from Ramban. The positive patients include 98 adults and 21 children, he added.
He said maximum 2234 cases reported so far are from Jammu district followed by Udhampur district with 348 cases, Kathua 249 cases and Samba 218 cases. “There were 64 cases in Rajouri, 31 in Reasi, 30 in Ramban, 24 in Doda, 23 in Poonch, 4 in Kishtwar, 15 in Kashmir and 27 from other parts of the country,” the official said.
The official further informed that a total of 1094 dengue patients have been admitted to the hospitals till date and of these, 962 have been discharged and 101 patients are still under treatment.
“The dengue cases are rising with each day,” the official said, and advised that citizens should ensure no stagnation of water in and around their houses as mosquitoes responsible for dengue breed in stagnant water. He said that water filled utensils and tanks should be kept covered and the cooler should be emptied two times in a week.
