JAMMU, Oct 14: Sarabjit Singh Johal, president of BJP Kissan Morcha Jammu and Kashmir and a member of District Development Council (DDC) Ramgarh, today expressed serious concern over the widespread damage to standing crops of ‘Old Basmati’ caused by a recent hailstorm.
Addressing media persons at BJP Headquarters in Jammu, Johal revealed that more than 75 per cent of the standing Basmati crops in the region have been severely affected by this natural disaster. He also shared that he, accompanied by party leaders Darshan Choudhary and Rakesh Pant, along with an Insurance Officer, recently conducted a comprehensive on-site assessment of the affected fields. The team witnessed the distressing impact on local farmers, who depend on these crops for their livelihoods.
Following their field visit, the team also met with the Deputy Commissioner of Samba to apprise him of the extensive crop damage. Johal urged the Deputy Commissioner to take swift action in this matter, including the necessary steps to assess the full extent of the damages and prepare lists of affected farmers.
Johal said that the affected farmers hail from various regions, including Bishnah, RS Pura, Samba, and other areas all of whom are now grappling with significant agricultural losses. He appealed to the Government to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the damaged crops and provide much-needed compensation to the affected farmers who have suffered financial setbacks due to the hailstorm.
The senior BJP leader asserted that the Modi Government is committed to support affected farmers and is determined to ensure that they receive the assistance and compensation they require during this challenging time.
